Infant Food


From 5th month:                                                                                              Qty/day

1.      Fruit juice – Orange/ tomato/carrot (with hot water) 1:1       -            1 to 2 spoon twice
2.      Soups – tomato/ carrot/ keerai/ dhal                                    -                      
3.      Mashed banana/ steamed apple/ papaya/ pear/ mango         -                        

  6th month:

1.      Kanji  with rava (fried in ghee & boiled with milk) / ragi/           -                  
rice flour/ health mix
2.      Full boiled & mashed veg/ potatoes/ carrot/ pumpkin/ peas       -                  
3.      Fresh curd                                                                               - 1 to 2 spoons once a day

7th month:

1.      Full boiled & mashed rice, dhal, idly, kichudi

8th month:

1.      Egg yolk only & liver
2.      Egg white (after 1 yr)
3.      Mashed meat, chapatti (soaked in milk), goat liver/ fish/ wheat & ragi dosa.

After 10 months, mash & give our regular home food.


Method to Prepare Health Mix (sathu mavu)


Ingredients:

1. Rice            - 1/2 cup
2. Wheat         - 1 cup 
3. Kambu       - 1/4 cup
4. Ragi            - 1 1/2 cup
5. Flattened Rice(aval) - 1/2 cup
6. Yellow gram (pottu kadalai) - 1/2 cup
7. Green gram (pasi payaru)    - 1/2 cup
8. Pea nuts        - 3/4 cup
9. Peas (pattani) - 1/4 cup
10. Channa (sundal)   - 1/4 cup 
11. Kambu             - 1/4 cup
12. Maize (cholam) - 1/4 cup

     Add cashew, badam & cardamom as required.

1. Soak all the ingredients except flattened rice & yellow gram in water over night.
2. Drain water. Tie the soaked items in a muslin cloth. Keep it aside for 48 hrs.
3. After it was sprouted, sun dry it & Fry it.
4. Powder it & use it as required.
